A new Trebuchet game
By: Ron  on: 05/04/2009 11:55 pm  (1013 Reads)
There's a new trebuchet game out there. Quite enjoyable!
Level 17 is particularly hard, but do-able, and the princess at the end is nearly impossible to kill, but I finally got her too. Plus, it's a very nice looking trebuchet!

Trebuchets vs. walls: quetions and answers on the web
By: System Administrator  on: 12/14/2008 12:09 pm  (2146 Reads)
Here's a new report published recently-

Medieval Siege Weaponry: Castle Walls Beware (external link)

excerpt: "A ferocious example of medieval siege weaponry came online in the 12th century with the deploying of the trebuchet."

The article is an interesting perspective on history, but clearly one without any practical experience in the art of hurling. Perhaps a few comments would help flesh out his understanding.

And elsewhere on the web, TimmyT asks:

"How many projectiles would a trebuchet (or a group of trebuchets) have to launch in order for it to totally destroy a castle or fortress?"

New system, new server
By: System Administrator  on: 11/08/2008 11:12 pm  (2120 Reads)
We've upgraded the software and the server hosting TheHurl.org, so you'll probably notice some changes. Most notably, the site is much faster now! However, we've already had one user mention problems reading forum messages. If you notice any problems or have trouble using the new system, please send me an email, or go to http://www.RLT.com/support (external link) and use that system to report problems. Use as much detail as possible, including browser type and version, what pages you were trying to look at (forums, wiki, images, etc.) and anything else that might be helpful.

Thanks, and have fun!

A new design for an old idea. The X-treme Onager is a simple torsion engine, with a frame designed for three advantages over a traditional Onager:

1. It puts the skein in the middle of a double-frame for added strength
2. It eliminates the need to drop the sling into a hole or off the edge of a table
3. It allows the arm to rotate farther, past the traditional vertical stop.

This design achieves those goals and it looks darn cool too!

Desktop_Trebuchet
Defend your desktop!

Our new Desktop Trebuchet is now available! It's a perfect ornament to any desktop or bookshelf. Unlike most model trebuchets, the sides angle inwards for a stronger axle and to create complex angles at the joinery. It's a much more interesting model, and it hurls missiles (included) over 20 feet!

New and Improved, the F.A.T.
Guillotine-style trebuchet is back!

This one has lots of improvements over the old model.

We've updated the frame architecture, wheels,
release-pin and trigger. It's a much better machine!

LiangJieming, 09:21 am, 06/29/2009: LOL! Ok walker. We're have to agree to disagree on this one. :D
RIPCORD, 07:58 am, 06/28/2009: "Slings" posting made on too little coffee or sleep but there it is.
SpringTreb, 08:03 am, 06/26/2009: Beam ratio PDFs. Hopefully these will be helpful to someone. :)
RIPCORD, 11:21 am, 06/19/2009: Morgana, the Kissing Bandit, is easy to find, albeit retired now. "Team Morgana" though...still searching.
Walker, 07:14 am, 06/19/2009: Anyone know how to get a hold of Morgana?
Walker, 06:54 am, 06/19/2009: Read the context, Liang. Arrows and great rocks were hurled. It takes more faith to fight it than to accept it as record.
RIPCORD, 09:51 am, 06/18/2009: I'd buy it too, if only to take aim on the 'boomer' cars that pass my home.
Murray, 04:48 pm, 06/16/2009: I'd buy it of I could afford it. I'll just have to settle for building one.
DARIVS_ARCHITECTVS, 01:12 am, 06/15/2009: 3/4 ton AUTHENTIC BALLISTA FOR SALE. See DARIVS ARCHITECTVS' post for details.
LiangJieming, 11:42 am, 06/11/2009: Didn't we have like this discussion already years ago? I think one conclusion was that those "machines" may have been simple rock slides, projectiles "rammed" down a chute shooting thru snd off the towers walls.
Thomas, 02:25 pm, 06/10/2009: Matters of faith are a touchy subject. Not many people see the Bible as an accurate historical record. It's doubtful that much in the way of "machines" existed at that time.
Walker, 08:04 am, 06/09/2009: All I'm saying is that the Persians got the idea from somewhere and Israel had the machines. invaded
Walker, 08:01 am, 06/09/2009: The same "researchers" who put the DOW later also interpret the unknown hebrew word as battering ram. Who puts battering rams on the towers to hurl great stones?
Walker, 07:42 am, 06/09/2009: I know skeptics place the date of writing much later than 791-739 BC where my conservative Biblical studies place the date. The Uzziah record from 2nd Chron 26:15 predates most any other treb record.
Walker, 07:39 am, 06/09/2009: Uzziah's "Machines" were placed on the battlements and hurled large stones and arrows. The concept could be stolen and reapplied.
LiangJieming, 12:13 pm, 06/08/2009: lol good point. Still, the evidence is intriguing. Hundreds of round 5-40lb stone balls, strong fortifications...
RIPCORD, 11:16 pm, 06/07/2009: Okay but, were the walls built in response to the catapults or the other way around? (Chicken or egg first?)
LiangJieming, 01:13 pm, 06/07/2009: Amélie Kuhrt argues in her 2002 paper on the excavations of the Tash-K’irman Oasis that 5th century BC Persian fortifications already show solid curtain walls of the type usually attributed to those introduced into Asia only AFTER Alexander's catapults
